Every great business starts with an idea. For DMI Draincare & Groundworks, that idea started with Danny's dream of building something of his own.
Danny began his career in the drainage industry at just 18 years old, working for the local water board. It was there that he discovered his passion for all things drainage, and, as we like to joke, probably where his love for all things poo-related began too. 😂
In the drainage industry, you could say Danny took to it like a rat in a drain.
Over the following 16 years, Danny worked for a number of drainage companies, gaining experience across virtually every aspect of the industry. From emergency blockages and CCTV investigations to drainage repairs, excavation, complex installations and groundworks, he built up the knowledge, practical experience and problem-solving skills that would eventually become the foundations of DMI.
But Danny always had another ambition. To work for himself.
In December 2022, after 16 years of building his knowledge and experience working for others, Danny took the plunge and set up DMI Draincare & Groundworks.
There was no large team. No established customer base. No big corporate backing. Just a van, a wealth of experience, a huge amount of determination and a dream of building a business he could be proud of, while providing a future for his family.
And from those beginnings, DMI has gone from strength to strength.
Danny remains heavily involved in every project we undertake. He does not simply turn up, complete a job and move on to the next one.
He takes ownership.
He wants to understand the problem, find the right solution and make sure the work is completed to a standard that we are genuinely happy to put our name to. That is incredibly important to us.
We do not believe in cutting corners. We do not believe in doing a quick fix just to get someone back up and running if we know there is a better way of solving the problem. If our name is on the job, we stand behind it.
Do the job properly. Do it once. And treat every customer exactly how we would want to be treated ourselves.
We are proud of how far we have come, but we are even more proud of how we got here. Through hard work, recommendations, repeat customers and people trusting us with their homes, businesses and properties.
For Danny, DMI is not simply a business. It is something he built from nothing, for his family, his customers and his future. And that means every job matters.
Whether it is a straightforward blocked drain or a complex drainage installation, Danny approaches every project with the same attitude. Find the problem. Find the right solution. Do it properly.
And, of course, try not to get covered in poo along the way. 😂
We are not a national franchise with a Yorkshire phone number. We live here, we work here, and our reputation gets passed around at school gates and pub bars across North, East, South and West Yorkshire. That is exactly how we want it.
We deliberately run one team rather than several. It limits how much work we can take on, and we are fine with that, because it means the job you get is the same job every other customer gets. Paula runs the office, so when you ring you speak to someone who knows where Danny is and when he can be with you.
We are fully insured with a comprehensive policy, work closely with health and safety professionals, and quote a fixed price before any job starts. Honest, local, reliable. That is the entire pitch.
